Organic products are grown without the use of conventional pesticides and artificial fertilizers, free from contamination by human or industrial waste, and processed without ionizing radiation or food additives.
In most countries, organic produce may not be genetically modified.
Most certifications, however, allow some chemicals and pesticides to be used so it should not be assumed that certification guarantees that a product has been grown organically.
