A hydrosol is the aromatic water that remains after producing an essential oil via steam or water distillation. They are used as flavorings, medicine and in skin care.
Hydrosols are sometimes also referred to as a floral water or distillate water, hydrolate, herbal water and essential water.
Herbal distillates are produced in the same manner as essential oils. However, the essential oil will float to the top of the distillate where it is removed, leaving behind the watery distillate.
